Turner House Children's Clinic was established in 1989 by a small group of doctors who recognized the serious healthcare needs of Kansas City's uninsured and underserved children. The doctors began offering their medical expertise as frequently as they could -- free of charge -- using borrowed space at Turner House, an urban youth center.
In its first year, Turner House Children's Clinic cared for 450 patients, operating just every other day. As the community realized the availability of free, quality pediatric care, the clinic's patient base grew at a constant rate over the next three years.
In 1993, Turner House Children's Clinic received a grant from the Kansas Health Foundation in order to expand and improve its facilities. The clinic also began operating six days each week.
In 2001, Turner House Children's Clinic relocated to its current location at Bethany Medical Plaza. The clinic's new safe and spacious accommodations have allowed it to significantly increase its capacity to serve the community's children.
